Washington, DC Trip Brochure Project
THE TASK:
Each of you have picked a location, theme or event of our trip. Think!!!!!!!!
|
|
We are going to create brochures that reflect what we are going to see in DC that will be finished upon our return. That way you can infuse your secondary source research with your primary source experience... And add some cool pictures of you and your friends right there live in person visiting!
NOW
1. Do a little research. You need historical to modern day background background.
Come up with an outline of this history. It can be in any form. Create a paragraph, timeline, bullet points etc.
Always give reference to sources used.
NEXT
2. Go back to the question... Why are we going there? What makes this place special? cool? important? relevant? signifiant? What happened?
Add this information to your paragraph, timeline, outline, bullet points or what ever you created.
THEN
3. Since you are sort of now the expert on all things regarding this topic, we want you to have a chance to show off a bit in DC. Create a list of at least 5 cool things to share with the group. There are lots of options for this list. See me if you have other suggestions than what is listed. Let's add to this list! =)
-Quiz questions about your topic
-Scavenger hunt for Artifacts - digital camera = proof
-Fun or obscure random facts
-Search for facts or answers to Questions (Like when I do the gold start question of the day)
Chaperones will put all of these our iPads for the trip so we can even compete in teams if you get creative!
LAST
4. It is time to create the brochure. I have included lots of templates on this webpage. I think that will make life easier but don't feel limited by them. You can always make your own style. I get the feeling that some of you would like them. Remember the key is content and not pretty graphics that take up space as fillers.
MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS:
-6 Visuals - pictures, graphics or photographs
-Color theme - background, text, titles etc = should all be complementary to each other - look at the templates as examples
-History - this will depend on the location chosen but should be in depth enough to give a solid beginning, middle and end - yes, include dates
-Highlights - these are the things that draw people to this location or what make it significant. These items could be graphically placed in and around the brochure or all in one section. They would also make great captions for pictures.
-Audience/Voice - this brochure should make people want to visit and learn about the location. Excite your audience. Verb tense needs to be consistent, check your grammar, spelling etc. Use a strong voice. Your writing is a reflection of you.
-Citations!!!!! Oh yeah... Do not forget! When ever we create and publish work borrowing other people's ideas, thoughts, research, etc. we give them credit. MLA Work Cited . I would like to think we can squeeze this on but my guess is we will have to attach it with a staple. =)

Templates onlineBrochures by Brother - These are AMAZING colors and text but be sure to leave room for content. The content is key for the grade.
ReadWriteThink.org - The printing press offers an online template. It makes creation of the brochure easy but be careful when saving and printing. Be sure you have a .pdf version so you can print it to turn in. Maybe even email your self a copy. |
